Robot Hangar
The Robot Hangar is the first map I constructed from the ground up. The central idea was to encourage verticality and allow the player to freely roam two separate floors of the level whilst completing the objective of destroying four power sources. These power sources control the flow of production to the Hangar and funnel robots in and out. Once the player destroys the power sources, all of that stops; no more robots. The player then needs to clear the room of enemies so they can complete the level and proceed deeper into the factory.
The Original Map
This was the original design of the Robot Hangar. Robots would spawn from production lines and cut across the map and land on their respective deployment stations. Depending on the difficulty of the run, the spawn rate will reflect.
Completed Original Design
This is the completed version of the old design. Despite its detail, there was one underlying issue with it all: it was too cluttered. This issue would then be fixed with the redesign below...
Final Redesign
... which solves the problems we were facing in the previous design. Now, the Robot Hangar still honors the verticality we desired, along with a more unique layout of the location, while having more room to breathe. The objective remains the same, as does the way the robots spawn into the map.
